From the desk of the Regional Director
The leaves are changing color, there is a nip in the air, and Odyssey of the Mind teams are forming everywhere! Welcome to all those who have participated before and a big warm hello to those who are new to Odyssey of the Mind. We are all looking forward to an exciting, challenging, and fun season.

Coaches Training November 4, 2000
Many thanks to Sarah Price, and Olive Chapel Elementary School in Apex, our hosts for Coaches Training this year. Training begins at 8:30 AM with a continental breakfast and continues during the day including lunch. The day will be structured similar to a high school day with many concurrent offerings in order to provide an opportunity for coaches to choose what is most applicable to their situation. The registration fee for training is $10 if registered before Nov. 1st. The registration fee at the door will be $12. Registration forms, schedules, and class descriptions can be found on the Eastern Website http://ncom-e.wayfarer.org.

Eastern Region Website
Special thanks to Andy Cordes, our webmaster, for his ongoing work keeping the website up-to-date. The website is easy to use and contains plenty of useful information for coaches, and even an interactive spontaneous site for students.
Special thanks to Tanner Lovelace. Tanner owns and maintains the computer server we use and provides space for the website as a donation to support the region.

For more information, and to view the application guidelines and the application form, visit the NCOM website at http://www.ceap.wcu.edu/ncom/ScholarshipInfo/Scholarship2001.HTML Students do not need to be currently involved in Odyssey, they only need to have participated sometime in the past.
Creative Opportunities Unlimited (COU) also awards scholarships to Odyssey of the Mind participants. Information and an application are available in each schools membership packet from national Odyssey of the Mind.
Listserve
A listserve is available on the internet for Odyssey of the Mind participants. This is an e-mail conversation among coaches, judges, team members etc. Plenty of coaching hints are available and fellow participants are very willing to answer questions. Be sure to read the rules of participation because long-term problems are not discussed in this venue. http://www.egroups.com/group/odysseyworld
