This year's tournament will be held on March 24, 2001 at the combined site of these two beautiful schools. Both Mr. Charlie Stewart and Ms. Sam Roman-Ortweig, Principals, and the Chapel Hill/Carrboro School System have been very gracious with their hospitality. Please show your gratitude by helping keep the campus clean.

Tournament Schedule

Team registration will be in the McDougle Middle School Lobby from 7:45 am to 10:30 am. Long-Term and Spontaneous judging will be from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The information booth in the lobby will remain open all day for information, forms, and lost and found. Souvenir Sales will take place throughout the day, the special events will be in the late afternoon, and the award ceremony will be at 5:00 (see details below).

When Should You Arrive

You must register your teams at the registration desk in the McDougle Middle School Lobby prior to competing. Please plan to arrive in plenty of time to register, locate sites, and make preparations for competition. We recommend 45 minutes to 1 hour before your scheduled performance or spontaneous time. With the permission of the Head Judge, sites may be available to be briefly previewed before competition begins. If doors are closed at the competition site, the room may not be entered.

Meals and Deals

The McDougle Middle School Greek Cultural Learning Group will again be offering general concession, from boxed lunches (including vegetarian options), pizza, hot dogs and nachos to coffee, muffins, soda, candy and chips. Please patronize this group as our thank you for hosting our tournament. Odyssey of the Mind products, pins, shirts etc. will be on sale at the tournament.


Parking will be limited. Please carpool as much as possible. Parking passes are included with the parking maps. Please read this material carefully. Teams with passes, volunteers, officials, and officially marked handicap vehicles will have the only guaranteed parking. Limited general admission parking will be available for $2.00 per car. Name Tags

Teams and coaches will be required to wear name tags during the tournament with the exception of on costumes during the long term performance. Tags will be provided in the registration packets that will be distributed at the registration desk. If teams prefer to make their own tags they must include: name, school, problem, division and a stripe of color that matches the stripe of color on the schedule label of this letter.

What Should Your Team Bring


Please encourage your students to leave valuables, props, and problem solutions locked in cars or on buses. We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged articles.

OMER’s Award

Nominations for Omer’s award (formerly Outstanding Omer) will be accepted during the tournament at the registration desk. Forms will be available there.

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony will be held in the Main Gym and will begin as close to 5:00 as possible. The gym doors will not be open until 15 minutes before the ceremony is to begin. If we are running late, please be patient and understand what we want to be fair and thorough in judging the last as well as the first team. When the doors open, teams and coaches are invited to sit on the gym floor. Parents and supporters should sit in the bleachers.

Students should bring materials to creatively decorate their coach for the coaches parade to be held late in the afternoon.
